Genesis

The India Business and Community Partnership Trust (IBCPT) was a charitable trust set up on 25 th November 1995 in Mumbai as a forerunner to BCF, a pioneer in CSR in India. The trust was set up to work towards the public charitable proposes such as:

  • To advance education in business management with specific reference to the development of corporate social responsibility.
  • To advance research related to CSR.

It was agreed that IBCPT and PWBLF would work together to maximize the impact of both organizations in promoting good corporate citizenship in India and internationally. The IBCPT would be the sole affiliated organization of the PWBLF in India and as such would act as the representative of PWBLF.

Mr Simon Scarff the then Managing Director of SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare Limited and Mr Shankar Ghose, Executive Director, National Foundation for India were appointed as the new Trustees of IBCPT in 1998. Since the new Trustees and the IBCPT bank account was based in Delhi, after several meetings and consultations of the Council/Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) members it was felt necessary to register another national non profit organisation in Delhi.

Thereafter a new organisation by the name of Business & Community Foundation was registered under the Societies Act of 1860. BCF has its genesis with International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) of the UK
