Navjyoti Development society (NDS): Slums of Okhla Industrial Area, Delhi
DS is a national level voluntary organization, born in the year 1991, with a mission “to help the people to help themselves”. The organization helps in the all-round development of women and children belonging to the rural and urban communities through education, health, environment, social and economical development, irrespective of cast, creed and religion.
‘Nai Disha’
Balwadi: The activity provides education and health facilities to small children of age group 3-5 years of Basties. These children are prepared for formal education so that they could be habitual of school environment.
Non formal education: The effort is to provide education to dropout children and working children in surrounding area. The course contains ‘minimum level of learning’. The significant change will come in the life of girl child deprived of education so far. The doorstep facility will encourage parents to send their children to the centre. Meanwhile the attitude of parents could be changed through different sensitization programs.
Remedial Education: This activity will reduce dropout ratio in govt. schools. The school going children will get support in their day-to-day study so that they can cope with the syllabus. Especially girl child will get security till their parent come from the work.
Enrichment Programs: Activities like celebration of Bal Divas, Independence Day, out door trips, Annual Day will be organized to inculcate school going habit among the children. These activities will be based on educational and child rights issues. A new awakening is expected in terms of child education.
Training and capacity building of teachers: Intervention in training field will provide skill development opportunity to field workers. The training will also be provided to community teachers/volunteers. This act will support them to conduct day-to-day classes and make a child friendly atmosphere.
Linkages and resource: Linkages will be built up with nearest government schools so that after completion of a certain course, the children could get admission without any problem. This act will make total program child friendly and innovative. Meetings will be organized to develop relations of teachers & parents.
