Mr Mark Runacres
Senior Visiting Fellow
After twenty five years in the British diplomatic service, Mark is on a career break and engaged in a range of fields, many focused on renewable energy. His current appointments include as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Energy and Resources Institute, New Delhi, a Member of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit Steering Committee and the Asia Energy Institute Research Advisory Panel.
Mark is a Non-Executive Director for:
- Invicta Renewables Limited (a British equity fund manager focusing on the renewable energy space)
- MindTree Consulting Limited (a leading IT services firm in Bangalore)
- G4S Security Management Services (India) Ltd (India’s leading security firm)
- Elara Capital India Pvt Ltd (the Indian subsidiary of a successful British asset management firm)
In addition, Mark is:
- Director of D1 Oils India Pvt Ltd (Indian subsidiary of a leading UK biodiesel company)
- Founder and Director of Spring Sports and Sustainability (bringing corporate finance and sports events together promote development)
- Director of VERpool Limited (a carbon trading house which directs carbon finance into development work)
- Senior Adviser to the Futuresense Corporation in the UK
Mark acts as an informal adviser to a range of different organizations involved in the climate change/carbon field: Carbon Disclosure Project, Global Cool, Climate Change Capital among others.
As a diplomat Mark has had extensive experience in international trade and investment, security affairs, development, political analysis, strategy and policy formulation, and of different geographies, particularly South and South-East Asia, Africa and Europe. He has spent over a decade working on Indian affairs, with eight of those years resident in Delhi, most recently as Minister and Deputy British High Commissioner until June 2006. Mark had served previously in the British Mission to the United Nations in New York and the British Embassy in Paris.
