MAXIMIZING EMPLOYMENT TO SERVE THE HANDICAPPED (MESH)

MESH was started as a permanent organization to coordinate village projects and act as a liaison between the rehabilitated leprosy patients and the distribution markets. It aims to provide opportunities for former leprosy patients to be rehabilitated to support themselves.

The organization buys handloom items and broiler chickens directly from each village. Today MESH works directly with four leprosy colonies in the region of Delhi: Bethony village and Amarjothi in Haryana, Anandgram across the Jumna river in Shahdara and Bharat Kusht Ashram in Faridabad. The organization is catering to 45 to 50 such leprosy colonies all over India. 85 percent of the sales income is handed over to the residents of these colonies and a 15 percent mark up on goods covers administrative and operational cost.
