FAMILY OF DISABLED (FOD)
FOD is a charitable trust founded in 1992 to serve the people
with different disabilities. Launched with a single member, himself
a person with quadriplegia (paralysis of all four limbs), today FOD
is a family of more than thousand members.
FOD's Apna Rozgar
programme, started in 1998 is an effort to economically rehabilitate
disabled/differently abled persons. The programme offers them
finance in kind to start or expand their own micro trades thereby
enabling them to support themselves and their families. This
facility has been extended to 180 individuals with a success rate of
80 percent. On an average these individuals have been earning three
to seven thousand rupees per month. FOD also makes it a point to
monitor these small ventures and provide help as and when required.
The organization encourages artists with disability through
different programmes like holding exhibitions of their artwork,
transforming their paintings into greeting cards and promoting them
through different avenues. The members of FOD are invited to visit
hospitals and institutions to provide psychological support to
people going through the trauma of recently acquired disabilities.
