MOBILE CRECHES
Mobile Creches works with the children of migrant workers.
Through 65 daycare centers in Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune, Mobile Creches reaches out to approximately 12,000 children (ages 0-12) per year.
Their activities include:
Education: Age appropriate activities for the all-round
development of the child include infant care / stimulation for birth
- 2 year-olds, social, physical and emotional development through
group activities for 3 - 5 year-olds, reading/writing and numbers
for the 6 - 12 year group followed up by admissions to formal
school.
Health and Nutrition: Preventive/curative health care
for the child, pre/ post natal counseling/special diet to the
mothers and growth monitoring of children are the hallmarks of our
intervention. Equally important are awareness on health issues and
access to health agencies.
Community Outreach: Community Meetings and street
theatre performances are conducted to inform and involve the
community on socio-economic and political issues affecting them.
Training: In-service training to our staff and training
in childcare to workers of other organizations as well as community
women strengthen the understanding on ECCD and make childcare
options for working women available. Sharing the Mobile Crèche
resource on ECCD through development and dissemination of manuals,
A/V materials etc., facilitates the process of building capacities
and understanding on ECCD.
Networking and Advocacy: Working with NGOs, government
and other grass root organizations to effect changes in policy,
increase allocations and ensure better implementation and
infrastructure on the ground - for poor children and their working
mothers.
