Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) - An initiative of Satyam Computer Services Ltd
EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute) incubated by the Satyam Foundation was born in April, 2005 as a not for a profit institute in the context of:
- Inappropriate coordination among multiple emergency response systems
- Inadequate legal framework (Crime reporting, EMTs, Medico-Legal cases)
- Absence of single number, advanced / basic life support ambulances, accredited facilities, quality care, trained personnel, trauma care facilities
EMRI has launched its pilot in 25 cities of Andhra Pradesh. Since its launch on August 15th, 2005, it has handled 10, 40,082 calls and helped save over 2295 lives (as on 30th Apr 2005). Based on the learnings within and outside the country, EMRI has decided to cover all emergencies (Medical, Police and Fire) comprehensively in Public Private Partnership. Emergency Management has three phases: Sense, Reach and Care which demands synergistic effect of technology, process and people.
In addition to handling day to day emergencies the institute plans to do research in the areas of Medical (Prevention, diagnosis and treatment), crime, traffic disorders, fire, chemicals, pharma / biotech and also train medical professionals, policy makers, public, volunteers and students. The vision is to receive two million calls a day, and save two million lives a year nationally by 2010 and One Million calls a day nationally by 2010
Value Creation
All initiatives of EMRI intend to create highest and a lasting value for the stakeholders and the stakeholders experiences really matter in the process, more so when EMRI's initiatives are able to create a delight value for the stakeholders adopting a framework, which seeks to strike a balance between Thinking, Doing and Communicating.
Based on TDC framework, EMRI developed Sense-Reach-Care paradigm for Emergency Management. Ultimately, the goal is to provide Better, Faster, Cheaper, Larger, and Consistent emergency response. This will significantly help in reducing in mortality, morbidity and economic loss of individuals and consequent impact on families and society.
Alliances
EMRI is working with Government of Andhra Pradesh in Public Private Partnership (PPP). Satyam Computer Services Ltd. is a strategic partner to EMRI and contributes to Technology, Processes and Knowledge Management. EMRI also entered into strategic alliance with National Emergency Number Association (NENA), USA.
