SMILE FOUNDATION - Twin E-Learning Project
Smile Foundation, a National Development Agency, registered as an Indian Trust in year 2002, works for children welfare. Smile Foundation, as its Mission, consciously advocates and works for Empowerment of masses through education- lack of which being at the crux of all problems in the developing world. It reaches out to children-the future of the nation- and children’s education therefore occupies the centre stage of Smile’s agenda. It reaches out to over one lakh children & youth through various education and health care projects across 13 states of Federal India.
Education in larger perspectives is what Smile believes in and promotes. Not getting confined to the issue of literacy alone, Smile has moved beyond covering aspects such as general awareness, Family life education, life skills as well as skills for economic gains (vocational training).

The Smile Twin e- learning project focuses on urban poor- under privileged adolescent youth (having passed higher secondary ,unable to pursue studies further and finding their skill at divergence with market demand).The project proposes to impart practical training in marketable skills like Computer and English language (besides other soft skills) in order to enhance their prospects for employment in fast expanding service sectors like retail outlets, hospitality, BPOs etc. wherein there is increasing demand for such skills.

The Project is proposed to be set up initially in 40 major urban locations across different states for the benefit of adolescent youths, girls in particular and having passed at least class 12 from recognized Boards. Through this project, in 5 years, SMILE proposes to touch life of 24000 urban youths and in turn 144000 Indians residing in various cities and towns. Each e- Learning centre will be set-up in a modest premises with two room adequately furnished for 10 computers (branded and with legal software of Microsoft) and class room facilities; for a batch consisting of 20 students. The course shall be for duration of 6 months
The project envisages a partnership model wherein the cost of the project is shared between the Foundation and Partner organization(s) - SMILE providing computers and accessories and the Partner organization(s) running the centre. Built in under the project is a revenue model through charging subsidized fees from students in consultation with SMILE Foundation
which is to be utilized by the implementing partner towards running expenses –to bring the project on the path to sustainability.
Based on a thorough research on market demand for precise skills in services sectors in Computer efficiency and English language, teaching curriculum is being finalized and made available for the proposed training.

Organizations involved in human capital development and national reconstruction are encouraged to respond .The project is expected to find great favor from the corporate with serious and meaningful CSR operations and who would be keen to help materialize trickle down of e- literacy to the Bottom of the Pyramid and ensuring easy availability of needed skills in the population for their business operations.
