Businessworld FICCI - SEDF CSR Award 2006

The Businessworld FICCI-SEDF CSR Award aims to:

  • To acknowledge & recognize for their CR Vision, Approach & Practices.
  • Encourage the corporate sector to integrate CR in the core business strategy.
  • Help to deepen social consciousness and partnership with stakeholders.

This time 33 companies applied for the Businessworld FICCI-SEDF CSR Award 2006. The assessment was carried out on the basis of clearly laid out criterias. These include:

A) Institutionslisation of CSR

  • Drivers of CSR
  • Leadership
  • Implementation structure
  • Action plan
  • Resources
  • Documentation
  • Reporting & disclosure
  • Understanding of stakeholders
  • HR practices Environmental practices
  • Workforce diversity

B) Community Development:

  • Identification of key communities
  • Identification of community needs
  • Implementation structure
  • Action plan
  • Partnerships
  • Success & impact
  • Sustainability

In the first stage seven companies were shortlisted by Grant Thornton on the basis of desk review. In the second stage team BCF carried out the field assessment for the shortlisted companies. Thereafter the assessment team submitted their recommendations to the Jury. At the same time each of the shortlisted companies made their presentation to the Jury. Based on these the Jury took a final call.

The awards were presented by the Honourable President of India, Dr A P J Kalam at the FICCI auditorium on 7th May 2007.

Dr Kalam in his inspiring address invited comments & responses from audiences as he unfolded his vision step by step. “A nation's economic development is powered by competitiveness, competitiveness is powered by technological innovation, technological innovation is powered by resource investment, resource investment is powered by return on investment & revenue, revenue is powered by sales & loyalty of customers, customer loyalty is powered by quality & value of output, quality of output is powered by employee productivity, satisfaction & good working conditions, working environment is powered by management stewardship, management is powered by creative leadership & creative leadership involves a paradigm shift from commander to coach”.
